In this guide
No. An escape room can tell a story about treasure, magic, a secret agent mission or an old legend. Horror is one possible theme, not a must-have for this kind of entertainment. At Gamescape in Krakow, ul. Tadeusza Kościuszki 74, none of the rooms is listed as horror-themed on its page. The darkest one is a crime thriller for ages 16 and over, and the rest are adventure, fantasy and action.
Still, it’s worth separating the theme from how the room actually feels to a player. A pirate adventure can take place in dim light, and a fairy-tale story can have an evil sorcerer in the background. A label alone doesn’t describe every emotion, so below, next to each theme, you’ll also find notes from the room page.
Escape rooms in Krakow without horror, by theme
This overview is based on Gamescape room pages checked in September 2026. The operator doesn’t use a separate fear scale, so we describe the themes and the warnings it gives itself.
- Pirate adventure: Dead Man’s Chest. A hunt for treasure buried by privateers. The operator describes the room as child-friendly and suitable for a family game. The page has no warnings about dim light or tight passages.
- Magic and spells: Enchanted Amulets. Collecting the amulets of the schools of magic to lift a curse. The room is marked as child-friendly, but it’s dimly lit, and the story talks about a time of darkness and the howling of hellhounds.
- A legend from the Far East: Dragon’s Curse. An oriental adventure with signs of the Zodiac and a sleeping Dragon. The operator warns about tight spaces and narrow passages.
- Spy action: Chimera Protocol. A mission for secret agents searching for an antidote. Here too, the page warns about tight passages.
- Medieval fantasy: House of Krak. A search for the heir to the throne in a world inspired by the legend of King Krak. The game lasts 90 minutes, and there are tight passages in the room.
If you’re after stronger thrills, Anatomy of Crime 2 is a crime thriller about an investigation into a serial killer, for ages 16 and over. The operator notes that the room isn’t suitable for people with heart conditions or for pregnant women. It’s a choice for a team where everyone knowingly wants a darker story.
If you’d rather solve puzzles without a closed room, the Krakow Legends app is a city game where you solve tasks linked to Krakow’s old tales along a route through the city centre.
Curiosity instead of horror
A hunt for hidden treasure raises questions about the map, the objects and the way to the goal. A story about wizards can focus on artefacts and mystery. The tension then comes from wanting to know the answer, not necessarily from trying to scare the player.
What exactly worries you?
The question “is it scary?” can be tricky, because everyone understands it differently. It’s better to say what you don’t want: sudden loud noises, an actor jumping out at players, violent scenes, darkness or tight passages. The staff can tell you about a specific element without giving away any puzzle solutions.
Enchanted Amulets carries a warning about dim light on its page. That’s important for someone who’s afraid of the dark, even if they love fantasy stories. On the other hand, someone who isn’t afraid of the dark but struggles with tight spaces should pay attention to the warnings for Dragon’s Curse, Chimera Protocol and House of Krak. There’s no need to convince anyone that a fear like that is irrational.
The clock and the rules for leaving
For one person a countdown is a fun challenge, for another it’s pressure. It shouldn’t be labelled as positive tension in advance. It’s worth knowing how the Game Master’s help works and what happens if the team doesn’t finish all the tasks.
On the pages of all Gamescape rooms, the operator gives the same rules: the doors are open and you can leave at any moment, there are safety buttons in the room, the room is monitored, and the Game Master follows the game and stays in constant contact with the players. Simply knowing how to stop takes away one of the unknowns.
Your first visit doesn’t have to be planned as a test of character. You can choose a gentler theme and say that you’d like to get to know this kind of game. That’s clear information for the organiser.
Choosing together, without talking anyone into it
If some people in your group love dark stories and others prefer a calmer adventure, look for a shared level of comfort. The stronger thrills can wait for another outing with the right crew.
You don’t need to be scared to have an adventure. A well-chosen puzzle can pull you in even when nobody is trying to frighten you.
